2021 Riflemans Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay
This elegant wine offers complex aromas of zest of lemon and lime, citrus flowers and baking spices supported by toasted almonds, butterscotch and vanilla. Richly textured, the palate has fabulous flesh and power, finishing with lime zest flavours.
This wine is made in very small volumes and orders are limited to 12 bottles per customer, while stocks last.

Riflemans continues to be a reference Chardonnay not only for Hawke’s Bay but for New Zealand, having been planted in the 1980s on its own roots. Standards are exacting, and in 2018, the decision was taken not to make any Riflemans, in order to ensure that standards were maintained. It’s back to form in 2019: full-bodied yet seamless and elegant. There’s a sense of harmony, with oak-derived roasted hazelnut characters playing off apricots and roasted pineapple. The combination of fine acidity and oak influence acts like a hand gently yet assuredly cupping the wine’s plentiful flesh on the long, composed finish. Welcome back.
