30 Aug Wine Thief steals the show
Sacred Hill is thrilled to release the 2015 Wine Thief Chardonnay into its iconic Special Selection range. Adding to the stellar vintage of Special Selection Reds released earlier this month, the 2015 Wine Thief Chardonnay is an exceptional wine from an outstanding vintage.
Named after the ‘wine thief’ tool, a winemakers best friend, used for sampling wine directly from the barrel. Wine Thief Chardonnay is a unique blend of individual barrels chosen after sampling with the wine thief tool. The resulting wine is a richly textured and opulent style of chardonnay with power and grace.
Sacred Hill enjoyed its third successive excellent growing and harvesting season in the 2014/15 winegrowing year, with warm and dry conditions at Riflemans vineyard. The 2015 Wine Thief Chardonnay harvest was un-hurried, with consistently good weather allowing selective and sequential harvesting of each block when optimum maturity was reached. This has given rise to wine that is rich, dense and shows great aromatics and complexity.
Tony Bish, one of New Zealand’s most experienced and respected winemakers presided over the making of Wine Thief Chardonnay. Tony says: “The 2015 Wine Thief is a superb wine, rich and powerful with a creamy texture and an intense finish. The clean fruit enabled us to employ our traditional indigenous fermentation in barrel, and the wines are fresh and complex. We rely heavily on hand harvesting and whole bunch pressing for our barrel fermented chardonnays. These traditional French techniques produce wines that deliver depth and richness.”
